"Failure to wear a seat belt contributes to more fatalities than any other single traffic safety-related bhevior."

63% of people killed in 1999 were not wearing their seat belt.

"Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death to children in America."

Each year in the US approximatley 1,800 children ages 14 and under are killed as occupants in motor vehicles and more than 280,000 are injured.

"Safety belts, air bags, and proper child safety seats, when used consistently and correctly, can significantly reduce the rate of injury in a crash."

Every American pays about $580 a year toward the cost of crahses. If everyone would just buckle up, this figure would drop significantly.

80% of all traffic fatalities occur within 25 miles of home and under 40 miles an hour.

"On average, inpatient hospital care costs for an unbelted crash victim are 50% higher than those for a belted crash victim. Society bears 85% of thos cost, not the individual involved."

Only if 90% of Americans would take time to buckle up, we would prevent more than 5,500 deaths and 132,000 injuries annually.

A child who is 8 years and under that weighs less than 80 pounds must be in an approved car seat, not only a seat belt.
